220px-Hercules and Antaeus

Heracles and Antaeus

Antaeus was the half-giant son of Poseidon and Gaia. His wife was the Greco-Berber goddess Tinjis.

In Myth

Antaeus resided in Libya and would challenge travellers to wrestling matches, hoping to build a temple to his father from their skeletons. Antaeus had defeated all his opponents due to his ability to gain strength from a physical connection to the ground. When Heracles was on his way to the Tree of the Hesperides for his 11th Labour, he killed Antaeus by holding him aloft and crushing him.
