The Furies pursue Orestes, after he killed his mother.

The Erinyes {singular: Erinys) are Greek goddesses residing in the Underworld. They punish those who swear false oaths and those who commit heinous crimes. They are most well known for pursuing Orestes. They condemned his as a matricide, though he was avenging the death of his father Agamemnon. Orestes was later pardoned in the court of the gods. Their name means "avengers". In Roman mythology, they are known as the Furies, or Dirae.

Their parents are usually either Nyx and Erebus, or they were born from the blood of Ouranos. Their number is indefinite, but usually only thre; Alecto, Megaera and Tisiphone.
