Fauns are Roman nature spirits (genii) of untamed woodlands in Roman mythology. They belong to a god named Faunus and love to dance and play the flute. They are more jovial and benign.

Characteristics[]

Appearance[]

Fauns a goat people, usually male who have the top half of a human but with horns, and the bottom half of a goat with hooves.

Although female fauns are more prevalent in modern depictions, in original mythology the main female faun is the goddess Bona Dea.

Differences between Panes and Fauns[]

Although Romans connected their Fauns to the Greek Panes, they are quite different creatures. Panes are wild and orgiastic drunken followers of Dionysos. Also, originally Panes had human feet before being depicted with hooves like fauns.
