In Greek mythology, the Golden Fleece (Greek: Χρυσόμαλλον Δέρας Chrysómallon Déras; Georgian: ოქროს საწმისი) is the fleece of a golden-haired, winged ram located in Colchis. The fleece belonged to a golden ram, the son of Poseidon in his ram form, and Theophane, a nymph. The ram transports Phrixus and Helle across the Hellespont (see Nephele ) and Phrixus eventually arrives in Colchis, where he marries King Aeetes' daughter and gives his new father-in-law the fleece of the ram, which is scarificed to Poseidon and eventually forms the constellation Aries.

The fleece is also the main feature in the story of Jason and the Argonauts. King Pelias sends Jason on a journey he knows Jason could never return alive from: the quest for the Golden Fleece. Jason assembles a team of heroes and adventurers known as the Argonauts and embarks on the quest for the fleece in order to place himself rightfully upon the throne of Iolcus in Thessaly.
In God of War II, Jason and the Argonauts are on a quest for retrieving the Golden Fleece from the Island of Creation. However after Jason finds the fleece, he and most of the Argonauts are killed by the Mole Cerberus. Kratos later wins the fleece for himself. The fleece depicted in God of War II is very different than that described in myth, as the fleece in the game looks like a metallic curved plate used for covering the user's shoulder.
In Mortal Kombat (2011) Kratos uses the same Golden Fleece depicted in God of War II.
