The Muses of the Titans were an association of five sisters, Aiode, Melete, Thelxinoe, Arkhe and Mnemosyne. They were the predecessors of the Olympian Muses.

Mnemosyne (right) aids a man's memory (by symbolically placing her hand on his head).

Aiode was the muse of song and dance. She was aunt of the Olympian Muses

Melete was the muse of practise. She was aunt of the Olympian Muses.

Thelxinoe was the muse of mind-charming and sweet music. She was aunt of the Olympian Muses.

Arkhe was the muse of the beginnings of music and early sound. She was aunt of the Olympian Muses.

Mnemosyne was the muse of memory and, by Zeus , was mother of the Nine Muses of Olympus, Calliope, Clio, Erato, Thalia, Euterpe, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Melpomene and Ourania. She was also grandmother of the Apollonic Muses through Calliope.
