Nekomata is a mythical being from Japanese mythology. It is said to be a lower form of a bakeneko. Traits of a nekomata include looking like a domestic cat, having two tails, having the ability to walk on two legs but only when unobserved, and can morph into a demon when angered. The first stories of this feline popped up during the 17th century in Japan.

The Nekomata have the ability to enter people's dreams.

Nekomatas have appeared throughout many of the games in the Megami Tensei series and its spin-offs.
- In Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 and its ports, a Persona called Nekomata can be used.
